Транскрипционные факторы — представители класса ядерных ДНК-связывающих белков, которые взаимодействуют с последовательностью узнавания (сайт связывания) и облегчают инициацию транскрипции ДНК-зависимой РНК-полимеразой у эукариот. Т. ф. могут связываться с апстрим (вверх по течению) расположенными регуляторными последовательностями, с TATA-боксом, а также с последовательностями внутри области кодирования (в случае генов III класса).
